On May 21, 1858 the foundation of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping was laid. The headquarters of the Shipping company were housed in Baku and the key base of the company was its fleet. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Shipping in Azerbaijan grew and developed even more. Azerbaijan's shipping industry includes more than two hundred different cargo vessels and offshore vessels.
Azerbaijan Marine School founded in 1881 and in 1996 Azerbaijan Marine School received the status of an academy. Since its establishment, the Azerbaijan State Marine Academy trains thousands of experience and qualified sailors every year.
